The Richmond Tavern

When you're looking for live music in the heart of London Ontario the Richmond Tavern (370 Richmond Street) is the place to be. Did you know that the Richmond Tavern was opened in 1852? What else was going on in this period? Well, Napoleon III became the emperor of France and the saxophone was just evented a few years before by Adolphe Sax.

The Richmond Tavern

For some history about the tavern here's an excerpt from The Richmond Tavern MySpace page:

"The Richmond Tavern is located in the heart of downtown London. The original building was constructed in 1852 and at the time was called the Revere House. 10 years later, the building was doubled in size and became known as the Richmond Hotel.

The Richmond has been continuously operating as a hotel and bar for over 150 years. Over the last 20 years the bar and hotel have become separately operating businesses, although still family owned.

The only thing more notable than the bar's impressive history is it's reputation of being the finest draught house in London. We have twelve taps serving up everything from Labatt 50 to Guiness. The beer is always ice cold and serviced regularily to ensure the freshest draught ever."

The Richmond Tavern is always looking for bands! For more information see the following link: The Richmond Tavern MySpace Page.

The lastest addition to their Thursday night performances is the Dony James Gang. The band features Dony James (vocals, lead and rhythm guitar), Ian Currie (drums), Creg Johnston (sax, vocals), and Rick McClelland (bass). Known as one of the hardest working blues bands in London Ontario, they also cover R&B and some jazz as well.

Expect raw surging guitar licks, rhythms and vocals only as Dony can deliver. You won't be dissapointed. The blues lives at the Richmond Tavern every Thursday from 8 PM to 12 AM. If you wish to book them for your venue or corporate event contact Ian Currie by phone or email: 519-461-0600, . Come on down to the Richmond and see Dony and his gang (video to the left) bring the house down!
