Wortley Village Jazz/Blues Festival On Saturday August 16th 2008!

Can you believe it? Here in London Ontario's Wortley Village (the heart of Old South) there will be a Jazz/Blues festival to mark the 70th anniversity of Turner's Drugstore and other local merchants. This is a free event!


Turner's Drugstore located at 52 Grand Avenue at Carfrae Cresent

Two stages will be set up. One stage will be located between Elmwood and Bruce on Wortley and the other stage will be located between Bruce and Askin also on Wortley. The event will run from 2 P.M until 7 P.M.

Stage one will start at 2:15 P.M. with the Ken Varley Trio (see Free Album Galore for band information and free music!). Here's the line up and times of stage one:

One of the highlights of stage one will be the unofficial reunion of the Oliver Whitehead Quintet. Oliver (guitar) recieved a Juno nomination for Best Jazz Album in 1985 along with Chris Robinson (sax) and Rick McClelland (bass). Also included on stage one will be the fusion sounds of Floating Point and the soothing vocals of Natalie Howard. All jazz fans will be satisfied with this wide variety of straight ahead bebop to fusion.

If you love the blues stage 2 is for you. Starting at 2 P.M. The Village Blues Band will not only deliver the blues but will funk you out as well. Check out their myspace page and listen to the "Wortley Stomp". That's not all! It will continue till 6 P.M. when the Tom Lockwood Band will take the stage. Blues addicts beware!
